Each of the eight highest paying jobs in the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Area in 2022 was in the healthcare field, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics . Based on median hourly wages, the highest paid workers in the region were orthopedic surgeons, cardiologists and dermatologists. The BLS didn't have exact dollar amounts for those fields, but median pay for each was greater than $115 per hour, or $239,000 per year.
